This is a concise opportunity for the entire team to sync individual progress (burn down chart) with the iteration’s Sprint, features, or story point estimates. In other words, the stand-up is a status update meeting, timeboxed to fifteen minutes, with the following three fundamental questions—discussions on related topics are held offline.
- What did you do yesterday?
- What will you do today?
- Are there any impediments preventing you from making progress?

Daily Scrum Meeting
Purpose of the 3 Daily Scrum Questions
The Daily Scrum is a meeting held during a Sprint to check and adapt. Its goal is to quickly inform everyone on the team’s current status. It is not a detailed status report meeting. Below are some benefits of the daily Scrum meeting:
- Synchronize team work.
- Identify and remove development impediments.
- Adapt daily plans and the Sprint Backlog.
- Track progress by reviewing and updating the burn down chart.
- Improve team engagement and collaboration.
What is the Daily Scrum?
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes
Rules and Guidelines:
- Start at the same time and place each workday
- The Scrum Master facilitates the meeting
- Conducted with the entire team to keep it under 15 minutes
- Each Scrum team member must answer the three questions above
- Each team member should spend no more than 2 to 3 minutes answering
This is simple and straightforward—but not always effective. It can easily devolve into a status update session and fail to clearly track progress on the Sprint Backlog.
